An Evening with Kilchoman at the Scotch Lodge

It should come as no surprise that The Scotch Lodge is my favorite whisky bar in Portland. There are many reasons they've earned that title, and one such reason is the tasting events they regularly put together. Kicking off their 2024 series, they brought in Global Brand Ambassador and Islay local Emma McHarrie to showcase a number of delicious Kilchoman releases and I was fortunate enough to snag a ticket.

The tasting featured 5 whiskies (listed below) and plenty of great conversation. Kilchoman is among my favorite distilleries, so I've sampled my share of their offerings before. However, I was particularly intrigued to try the Fino Sherry Matured and Comraich Batch 6, as those were both new to me. And while I tried the 100% Islay at the distillery in 2023, tonight's dram was of the 13th edition as compared to the 12th edition I'd had previously.

But let's be honest, I hardly needed the excuse - I'd have gone just to enjoy more of what I've already tried.

The ratings above speak for themselves - clearly I'm a fan. In fact, I'm on the hunt for a bottle of the Fino Sherry Matured for myself. I need to come up with a better system for shorthand notes during tastings like these so that I can record more detailed notes. But I tend to prefer to enjoy the moment, so I'll have to settle for updating these reviews with additional details if and when I can get a bottle myself or another taste some time.

To wrap it all up, this tasting included a bottle of the Machir Bay to take home. It's the staple Kilchoman release, and one I've always enjoyed. Look for a review on that soon...
