Despite the fact that I enjoy whisky to the point that I've built an entire site about it, I initially didn't feel drawn to join a whisky club like Westward's. I always figured I'd just grab whichever bottles I wanted, when I wanted them. But I've been consistently pleased with the variety and quality of Westward's club releases.
Their first club release of 2024 actually began as a mistake. As Westward themselves tell it:
Formed by fate, Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt is about rolling with the punches and achieving excellence. When our supplier delivered Vienna malted barley instead of our standard two-row pale, we had a decision to make: back down or venture forward. This expression is the embodiment of bold, decisive action, blending the award-winning technique of Westward Whiskey Original with destiny to bring taste buds on a sweet, toasted, malty journey.
I can't say I've had many (any?) whiskies featuring a Vienna malt before, but their tasting notes certainly intrigue me. I look forward to picking up my bottle in a week or two and will post up my own tasting notes for it shortly thereafter.
